MUST HAVES AND HELPFUL HINTS:
Before coming to camp:
• Prepare physically – get outside, walk, run, exercise somehow - it is much easier for your body to adjust to the summer heat if you spend time outside, and marching is exercise – so don’t think you can show up after a summer indoors and idle and not have a negative effect
• Hydrate – start drinking water regularly before you get to camp, at least 3 glasses a day
• Prepare mentally – start practicing and memorizing your music before arrival at camp – the marching band plays from memory and preparation as a group is much easier if each individual knows their part
AT CAMP:
-Enclosed shoes – tennis shoes are fine, flat soles are best (Toms, Chucks, Keds) but don’t go out and buy something new just to wear out on the dewy turf
-Weather appropriate clothing – you may have to do layers as the Midwest weather can be unpredictable
-Bring your music
-Bring your instrument
-Eat a light but healthy breakfast – something with some protein if possible
-Bring your own water bottle – we have coolers of water available to you but we do not provide cups.
-Drink the water!
-Plan for lunch / snack – You have from 12-1pm for lunch the entirety of your camp period
-AVOID – high sugar drinks, especially “energy” drinks – these can be very dangerous anyway – but you add in heat and you are increasing the chance for dehydration or nausea
-The Band does have available some quick snacks for those who forgot, but not nearly enough for the entire band each day
-Band Boosters will provide ice pops occasionally during camp
As always check the calendar on the website www.beltonbands.com
